My drumming also now be heard on the soundtrack for Surfer Magazine's short film 'As Close As You Can Get to Flawless Teapuho'o Without a Board'. Shot by Andrew Kaineder, music by Onic Studio. It was fun recording rock drums with a mate for this little project.

Coming up is Funk Engine at Johnson St. Jazz on August 29th!

June & July
Throughout June and July I had an inspiring time travelling throughout Europe - London, Paris, Berlin, Stockholm and Copenhagen. I saw many friends (and made some too!); experienced amazing art, history, architecture, fashion and music. The Microfiche tour went very well, with a highlight being our performance in Sweden at the R1 decommissioned reactor (what a crazy venue).

Lots of gigs coming up before I head to Europe in June!
May 17th - Lupa J @ Vic on the Park with Coconut Cream
May 25th - Lupa J @ Vivid Live: Location TBA
May 30th - Lupa J @ Vivid Live  with XIRA @ Ziggy's Barber Salon
May 31st - Boydos @ The Landsdowne: Graveyard Shift with Gypsys of Pangea & Lachlan X. Morris.

Then I head to Europe from June till mid- July
June 29 - Microfiche @ Km28, Berlin
July 7 - Microfiche @ R1 Nuclear Reactor (decommissioned!), Stockholm
July 11th - Microfiche @ Copenhagen Jazz Festival: Literhaus, Copenhagen.
So, big things happening in April:
- Funk Engine Album #3 recorded! Recorded at Free Energy Device Studios with Richard Belkner, the band spent 3 days laying down funky, lush and disco-ey tracks for our 3rd album. Guest appearances from Pat Powell and a full horn section (Sam Gill, Jacob Parks and Rob Campbell). Mixing is next, then release later in the year.

Live shows this month included:
- Lupa J shows at TedX Youth and Art After Hours at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Click here for a video of the TedX Event.

- Microfiche at Johnson St. Jazz with Band of Five Names (Phil Slater, Matt McMahon and Simon Barker). This was our last gig in Sydney before we all head to Europe for our mini tour. John Shand from the Sydney Morning Herald reviewed the show and says "[Microfiche's] six members have arrived at their own sophisticated, suspenseful and sometimes thrilling ways of combining composition and improvisation, with keen instincts for orchestration".  Read the full review here.

Feb/March 2019
Been busy this past little while and more gigs coming up!
Highlights have included:
- My first Lupa J shows playing SPD. Supporting Banoffee in Melbourne and Sydney was so great! Other gigs include playing Commune in Waterloo.
- An .ilex solo gig at Tokyo Sing Song, put on by Touch of Loft. It was one of their first live electronic gigs, give them a follow if you're interested in seeing live/acoustic/electronic hybrid music!
- Boydos single launch @ Freda's, and Vic on the Park. Was fun to get to dig in and play Eddie's great songs with a killer band.

December 2018
December was a big one!
It was extremely cool to be a  part of the Tzusing Sydney Show as part of Series Concert, playing my .ilex hybrid set. The hybrid set is all original music, live drums with my self-produced tracks.

Earlier in 2018 I recorded drums and percussion for the experimental surf film, Beyond the Noise (now screened throughout Europe and Australia). The full soundtrack composed by Joseph Franklin is now available here.

+ Gigs with Funk Engine, The Wireless, NOU and a beautiful wedding with Covergirls.

October - November
Jazz, Folk, Funk, Techno and covers!
Some highlight gigs for October and November have included:
- Performing with NOU at Lazybones Lounge
- Performing Yutaro Okuda's original music with Dave Quinn at Hibernian House
- Performing at Petersham Bowlo and Marrickville Festival with Funk Engine
- Djing techno/industrial tunes at Georgia Webb's EP launch.
August - September
Oxford Arts solo drum gig, Covergirls & All Ears with Marcus Whale
Throughout August and September, I have been playing a whole variety of gigs!

On Friday the 14th of September I played my first hybrid drum solo set as .ilex at Oxford Arts Factory Gallery for the event 'Bodies to Bodies', curated by Anna May Kirk. I composed my own percussive and textural track and combined this with live drum and percussion beats.

have also finished recording our demos, and have been playing many gigs around Sydney. My favourite was playing Amy Winehouse's tunes at the Soda Factory for their Amy tribute night.

Amongst other gigs, I also played accordion and zither in Marcus Whale's performance for the 'All Ears Listening Party' at Campbelltown Arts Centre. The program as a whole was amazingly curated. The performances were interesting and informative, featuring creative and diverse queer artists.

June - July
Funk Engine Gigs,  Lettuce Tribute with Pat Powell and DJ Debuts
These past months Funk Engine has been getting back into the swing (or should I say funk?) of things. We've played shows with Melbourne friends Masco Sound System, performed Swedish Funk at the annual Scandinavian Film Festival, and packed out Venue 505 with out 'Tribute to Lettuce' show (featuring Pat Powell).
I've also started to DJ as .ilex! It's something I've wanted to do for a long time. I particularly enjoy spinning techno/tech house and house mixed with interesting textures. If you're interested in hearing some of my mixes, you can check out my Mixcloud.

April - May
Lessons with Dave Goodman, and gigs with the Wireless and Nou
Recently, I've been playing some intimate and cozy shows with Heather Prowse's jazz quartet 'The Wireless', Tina Stefanou and Joseph Franklin's 'Nou', and exploring some new directions with my drumming! Through lessons with Dave Goodman, I hope to expand my soloistic ideas, and get a fresh perspective on how to approach the drums!

Funk Engine 5th Birthday at 505
Funk Engine is 5 years old! To celebrate this milestone, the band performed at 505 on March 23rd. It was a lot of fun playing to a sell out crowd and reflecting on the last 5 years. We've come so far as a band, musicians and people. Here's to the next 5!

January - Feb 2018
Korea and Japan!
Through January and February this year I was lucky to spend time in both Korea and Japan, experiencing many new things, exploring, and of course checking out some awesome music (mainly electronic music, and jazz). Highlights included seeing Sebastian Mullaert play an all night live set at Vent in Tokyo; catching Object, Wataru Sakuraba and Maa at Contact; Ko Omura at Pignose in Nakano; and Hakuei Kim at Keystone Club. Left is a Japanese woodblock, Korean temple block and some jingles that I picked up while away!

November 2017
Funk Engine's last gig for the year
Well, this was Funk Engine's last gig for the year.  It was fun to be able to play the late-night set after Terri Lyne Carrington, at this year's SIMA International Women's Festival.  It was amazing to see Terri Lyne's flow, groove and freedom around the drums, and she also very kindly let me use her beautiful Yamaha kit and Zildjian cymbals for my set! It was a great end to a full year for Funk Engine - releasing our second album, and playing shows in Sydney, Melbourne and the Blue Mountians. 2018 will be our fifth year playing as a band! Keep an ear out for some new releases next year!

Big Week for Funk Engine
This week Funk Engine let loose on Radio Skid Row 88.9 Marrickville for a live performance, followed up on Friday by a sell-out album launch at Venue 505! It was a real treat to play for a totally packed room, and to perform with all the musicians that played on the album. Also, Funk Engine are feeling extremely privileged to let everyone know that...we'll be performing the late-night set following Terri Lyne Carrington's Sydney performance at the SIMA International Women's Festival. The show's on November 10th and it's shaping up to be a great festival.

Lots of gigs this week!
I'm very excited to be part of many different shows this week as part of: Speak Satellite Festival Wollongong; Underbelly Arts Late Night Lab, co-hosted by the NOW now; Manly Jazz Festival; Funk Engine's Album Launch; and a live performance on radio.
See photo for details.

Holly Throsby Australia Tour - all done!
The Holly Throsby tour is now finished.  I had a great time drumming and singing backing vocals to Holly's beautiful songs, and couldn't have had a better time playing with other band members Abel Cross - bass, and Tim Kevin - guitar.
We have received several reviews of the live show, including praise from the BragThe Music.Com.Au; and the Newcastle Herald.
